Ode to Jennifer Clement: a Golden Shovel Poem
by Wilda Morris

Mercury-tailed comets rip open the sky
                                              and scatter moon-stones.

                                                                     ~ Jennifer Clement

You are electric, mercury-tailed.
You break through orbits like comets,
call to account those who rip
apart the lives of others. You open
secret places on this planet where the
officials hide truths under darkened sky.
You were called to illuminate a wider universe and
said yes. Already you scatter
ashes of burnt-out stars, your hands full of moon-stones.
