Discovering Another Poet
for Joan Colby
by Kathy Lohrum Cotton
I might have discovered you
while discovering myself,
my fledgling words winged from
a branch beneath your feathered nest,
my young skywriting wisped into
your high drift of clouds. Or even
decades later, after you stone-washed
ordinary denim into this fine
embellished jacket you wear with ease.
But not until today
did I stumble on your name,
find in point/thirteen seconds
the list of its million-plus connections
in my browser: a star-flung galaxy
of your volumes, your pages,
your words blinking nascent brilliance
on my wrinkled hands.
