Falcon, Owl, and Dove
by Maralee Gerke
“Once upon a time when women were birds,
there was a simple understanding that to sing at
dawn and sing at dusk was to heal the world through joy.”
                        Terry Tempest Williams

You are fierce,
a falcon with talons sharp and
eyes that scan canyons and hills.
Clear eyes that look toward the future
with openness and truth.

You are daughter of spirit,
an owl that flies among shadows
bringing ancient wisdom of
sand and water through your words.

You are the hope of peace,
a dove that brings
calm to a time of turmoil,
a softness that honors beauty.

You are a poet,
that writes of ancient longings,
for understanding and peace.
At dawn and dusk,
the falcon, owl and dove
proclaim your untamed joy.
