ABOUT THE BOOK:

Gatherings, as suggested by the title, is about the people, places, and life- contexts that, when assembled by a thoughtful poet, give us a sense of ourselves. Poet Dan Fitzgerald has never forgotten “from whence he came.” Through his sensitive insights, readers will grow in appreciation of those forces and experiences that have shaped their own lives as well.

ADVANCE PRAISE:

Dan Fitzgerald’s poems are thoughtful and softly elegant with no pretense. He goes directly into his story painting a clear and detailed picture along the way while pulling us into its frame.
–Constance Kostelc, artist, journalist, poet and short story author

In Gatherings’ Dan Fitzgerald makes ordinary things magical. Dan’s poetry gets to the essence of things to reveal them.
–Kathleen Murphy, Chair: Central Region, Illinois State Poetry Society

Gatherings, by Dan Fitzgerald follows his superb debut collection weatherman. The author could not have chosen a better title. Fitzgerald draws his inspiration from where he lives, from the places, people, and experiences that have shaped his life and informed his world view. This is down-to-earth relatable poetry. I was especially moved by these lines from “Ever Last”, “I held the hand of a child / while walking in a park, / told a woman I loved her/ with everything in my heart. / The smiles they gave me / are the only things I have / that will ever last.” Gatherings is a collection destined to stand the test of time and “ever last.”
–Michael Escoubas, author, Ripples Into the Light: PhotoPoetry with photographer Vandana Bajikar; Senior Editor, Quill & Parchment

FROM THE BOOK:

To Light A Future

by Dan Fitzgerald

I once watched
the march of stars
across a night sky,
wondering where am I
in those galaxies and universes.
Realizing they were all
reflections from the past,
I knew they were in all of me,
gathered here in memory,
holding them together,
making my own shining
to light a future.
