A boy and his shadow standing on a long shore trying to figure out the intentions of the sun
by t.wagner

A boy and his shadow
(Twice his height)
are walking in that dark edge of sand between
land and sea.

They are making footprints the tide will erase,
at the end of a day few would remember,
in a place of no historical significance. Yet

he imagines the ocean is calling to him
that a foreign shore has a companion child
on the other side
Looking West, while he squints East:

Dual dreams that stretch miles
with shadows miles long
but arms too small to reach.
