Under the Boardwalk
by ellen

We abandon the rowboat
lie down in the damp
sand beneath us

When sun drops its ball
into the sea and when
the aureolian

the cerise, the deep lavender
turn to somber lead-pearl
we forget everything we know

submerge ourselves
into each other
the aging pier a roof

Then we sleep
till the tide rips us open
like grief

Awake and cold
we run until
we enter the blue dawn
