Seattle Sound after Rain
by Michael Escoubas

Mother always said,
Be patient awhile longer,
things will change.

Her words return to me,
as I rest beside the bay
my chin upon my knees.

The sounds I hear seem
medleyed, as if sky and sea
give voice to hope. Turbulence,

yesterday's companion,
has fled amidst today's
rainbow colors. Sky and sea,

even the little tree, become
more than meaningless
plungings in mountainous air.

What is this new song?
What of these rainbow hues?
What of my mother's wise words?
