One Day I Will Be The Summer
by t.wagner

One Friday in June
We'll stay up past two and since we are already up
go out for breakfast at dawn
there's a diner downtown that has a booth by the window

One Saturday
we'll have omelets with hashbrowns and green mugs of coffee, while
a hazy sunrise pushes the fog out of the damp parking lot
It will be hot soon, but not yet

One Sunday
we'll take an afternoon nap so we can
have ice cream for dinner,
sitting on a curb, only because we can

One Thursday in August
we'll meet for drinks after work and
despite several napkins wrapped around them
sweaty glasses of gin will make puddles

we won't care
