Sax Man
A tribute to Hank Crawford
by Nancy Cummins Bierman

Smooth as polished brass
The fluid sound
Goes round and down
And out into
Cool sapphire air
Where

It dances,
Flits like butterflies,
Soars like a hawk.
Rides skyward
On

Sustaining waves
Of bass and drum

The sax a magic wand
That spins
A haunting, sweet
Blue tune.

A pulsing beat
That sings the blues
The way a rainbow
Sings its colors
To the sun.
