There's A River By The Edge Of Town
by Candace Turner

I walk the rocky path to the river's edge
Toss pebbles
Wish to turn back the clock

Saturday nights
Cars parked
Spaced for privacy

An accidental honking horn
sometimes shattered the silence
elicited a nervous giggle

Someone yells out their car window
"Move it to the back seat idiot"

The river, the place young lovers
visited to explore each other
Count bases uncovered

The murky, brown water
keeps our secrets
A silent witness
to our lost virginity
