by Gloria Jean Viglione

O Venezia, cuore del mio cuore,
O Venice, heart of my heart

you ride upon azure canals
and jewel-bannered reflections—

festal lovers meet in your Piazza San Marco,
don your artesian-designed silks,
stroll your maritime Promenade,
flirt without regard for their stripe-clad gondolier,
and wrestle in the magnanimous embrace
of your ancient mysteries after dark.

Cuoro del mio cuore, O Venezia
