Shimmering Plum Island Dawn
by Michael Escoubas
After the painting by Paulette Demers Turco

It is a new spring day; she sighs and stirs
as her companion, the sun, nudges gently

shimmering above the horizon ensconced in blue.
Ghost-mist takes leave of the warming sea.

Winter is washed away.
She feels a force within her soul,

a savage presence, a thing composed,
a friend imagined, in whose arms

she is complete. He is her belt and necklace–
the dawn, her sweet embrace.
