Sunset on Plum Island
by Michael Escoubas
After an acrylic on Canvas by Paulette Demers Turco

For what except for you
do I feel love?
You welcome me as a friend

beneath skies of textured blue
and pink, as your
stream meanders to the sea,

as good a companion as any man
ever had. When
anxiety lives large in my heart,

I seek your gently sloping beaches,
your grasslands
laced with tidal creeks and shellfish,

profusion of plum-rose dancing
on sand dunes.
With you, my soul finds peace.

As day surrenders to enchanting
twilight, I hear
sweet words of encouragement.
