Sweet Stuff
by Gay Williford

Fanny Flowers was on a tear.
She was an indomitable, plump forty-year-old woman
whose forte in life was making desserts,
which she whipped up with an ardent fervor.
Flour flew, sugar scattered, butter blended
as she measured, stirred and kneaded,
her face a blooming, rosy-red from all the efforts.

She had invited the Garden Club ladies
for a talk, tea and her tempting assorted desserts.
Landscape expert, Paul Fay, was slated to speak
while everyone partook of her scrumptious array.

Rich chocolate mousse,
tasty peach cobbler,
delectable cherry pie,
luscious sea salt caramel cake,
enticing red velvet brownies,
yummy strawberry crumble and
tempting coconut macaroons
comprised this impressive display.

As Fanny scanned the crowded sideboard,
she smiled proudly at her colorful creations
and anticipated a dreamy, long, delicious afternoon
in which she might be frosted with fine praise!
