Abed
by Karla Linn Merrifield

I crawl
into my head
curl up
inside mind
outside time
eiderdown ideas
envelop me
I am swaddled
within a dream
and a poem
I am amply pillowed
by sepia photographs
rapid copying
cottony thought of ephemerality
a day in a year
a year in a day
memory is comfort
to my neurons
upon Pi's mattress
beneath is heated
blanket of eternity
imagination synapses
axon to dendrite
wife to husband
ad infinitum
But then—
I sense a single dry pea
your ghost
begins to snore
