Safety of the Night

She wrapped herself
beneath the sheets,
nestled into
protection of a warm
wool blanket,
claimed the middle
of their bed, and
snuggled beside
him in the dark
while talking
of the men and women
standing tall in the
face of the scourge's
toll that dampens
each dream, each hope
