Winter Sun by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Welcoming The Haze
by MFrostDelaney

How will the winter sun be different
this year? Its gloss upon the snow creates
the finest mantle-skim-of-ice, all sent
by One Above who shifts the clouds, our fates.

Some warm themselves as ancestors once did,
in robes of wool, adobe oven’s glow,
and venture out for snow to melt, then bid
their maker thanks for all the gifts and woe.

For all the clouds that cloak the mountain’s might
and darken one horizon on this day,
will dissipate, replacing gray with light,
while cushioning my footsteps, come what may.

So I will follow winter’s sun this year,
it’s path, embrace its haze, despite my fear.
