Beneath a Radiant Sky
by Carole Mertz

Dressed December, with its frosty air
and festive atmosphere,
a cry
of joyful hearts–and here and there
the holly tells the Holy One is nigh.

God marked the day with special care,
the day the sheep were shorn.
No hour lost, no stars to spare–
the day the Christ was born.

God marked the day, and shepherds three
were huddled ‘neath a radiant sky.
Heaven sings in fervent glee
with holy angels standing by.
