Midwest Seasons
by Kathy Lohrum Cotton

How blessed I am to live
in the joy of seasons. They
spark an ever-changing wardrobe
of sundresses and sandals,
cable-knit sweaters and
cozy wool coats–all in colors
that complement Earth’s
shifts from spring blossoms
to verdant summer fields,
from golden autumn leaves
to winter’s bare black limbs
over landscapes of snow.

I celebrate each month’s segment of change:
January’s chilly new-year debut,
its wakening thaw easing into
mid-year’s blistering blaze,
then days cooling again toward
December, with its frosty air
and festive atmosphere
.

While some climes boast
of year-round comfort or beauty,
my heart still chooses
the wonders of change.
My life unfolds with
the many-faceted joys of seasons.
