Pines and Pinions, Spruces and Such
by Tracy Mitchell

Deciduous pencil-sketches rise
from the ridge line
against pungent blue–

where loneliness and fears
find cure in bouquets burgeoning

about the boughs
of mountainside evergreen–

where rabbits and squirrels frolic
unseen over crusted snow.

Cardinals and fluffed-up chickadees
flash about, above fresh white

then serenade a voluptuous world
made just so.

December, with its frosty air
and festive atmosphere–

far from the bustle of lights
and Christmas baubles–

where full majesty lingers in the scents
about the boughs of the evergreen.
