Pilar
by Howard Osborne

A State that so few people know well
February snow, and the trees are bare
Yet strange that only a few will shiver
As they hear the hawks and eagles cry
Thought by many, to be a land so dry
Except for the famous Rio Grande river
Echoes of history in the cold winter air
Yet, New Mexico has its secrets to tell
