Vampires at Port Angeles
by Connie Walle

A full moon, shadows
among the firs at the edge
of the cliff where the ocean scrapes
against the beach looking for bones.

Vampires, real or imaginary, don't matter.
There are pleanty of other things
to suck the life out of you.

I have worked for the same company
for ten years. Today the new girl
got my promotion.

Jack and I have a great relationship. I was
expecting we would get engaged this
Christmas, until he ran off to the Bahamas
with his secretary.

Well, there is always my dog Max
who loves me unconditionally.
Excuse me, someone is knocking
at the door...
