Mary's interest in creating art peaked when colored pencil work began showing up in art shows and galleries, and when she received a retirement gift of colored pencil supplies, including Bet Borgeson’s book, Colored Pencil Techniques, she was on her way.  She has attended the Renton Senior Center’s Drawing and Colored Pencil class since about year 2000, and, has taken many workshops from award winning members of the Colored Pencil Society of America.

After donating her work for three years to the Valley Medical Breast Center’s fund-raising event, she began showing and selling her work both privately and at various venues, including the Renton Annual Art Show, University Unitarian Church Gallery, Bellevue Art Museum, Mercer Island Community Club, East Shore Gallery, and Luther’s Table. Her work has been published in Northwest Colored Pencil Tips and Ann Kullberg’s, CP Treasures #5.

To Mary, her artwork is very personal--each piece having a special meaning to her. She finds it rewarding and inspiring to know that others enjoy her art too. Her goals are to continue exploring and developing her artistic style, and to have fun in the process. She is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and the Seattle CPSA District Chapter 207.
