Caroline loves Norman

      …loves him forever,
with rapture and angst
only a thirteen-year-old can conjure.
She loves him as birds love flight,
as peepers love rain,
and everyone knows but him.
She draws his initials on her notebook,
tells friends it's a boy she met
last summer,
they don't know him.
She links her name with his,
every variation.
She's still too young to date,
but someday …
she'll be Juliet to his Romeo,
Cleopatra to his Antony,
Angelina to his Brad.
Then Drew moves in:
handsome, sophisticated, fifteen!
She'll love him forever,
as birds love flight,
as peepers love rain …
