Everyday Love

Every night before we go to sleep
We say "Love you hon"
a ritual that has developed over the years.

Once we were two young college students
responding to the strange
feral chemistry of attraction.

Stepping gingerly toward each other
and the unknown future
we grew together becoming a couple.

Our marriage became what
most marriages are at the
beginning—a leap of faith.

Now we know each other
in the most intimate detail.
Sharing a deeper connection.

Ours has become a journey of love
one that is shown in small gentle touches.
We do for each other things we would do for no one else.

Together since our twenties,
we embrace the inevitable
buoyed by our everyday love.
