Two Cardinals on a Snowy Branch
by Michael Escoubas

They nestle
close to one another
both
intent on the other

as snow swirls and twirls
softly down
stars shaken
from Orion’s belt

love illuminés
life
see how their feathers
lightly touch

and their eyes
the way they penetrate
so deep
words inadequate

to keep
the love they feel
after fifty-five years
balancing on the branch of life
