Peter’s Song
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
To become whole again
You said we had to go without
So I went within
To search my soul again
I probed, I delved
And found a doubt within myself
Perhaps as friends you and me
Were never truly meant to be
That mysterious mathematical entity
Called “We”
You made me laugh
I made me weep
You gave me memories
Mine to keep
I searched my soul, I knelt to pray
I was afraid to dare believe
Come some windy autumn day
You might really slip away
Some stormy night you might just leave
Come some icy day, you might depart
And leave me with a broken heart
I searched my soul and found a song
Although it is not very long
I sing it in my heart
From deep within my soul it chimes
It is the essence of the memory
Of all the times
You were a cherished part of me
