Then It Was Gone
by Mark Lipman

Somewhere between
the full moon
and her eyes
between the hello
and the goodbye
somewhere
on the beach
after the first kiss
and before the first smile
at the very first glance
everything changed
when the flutter
of the butterfly
caused my heart
to skip a beat and dance
something unexplainable
but more than chance
yes, it happens every day
yet, sometimes never at all
like a thief in the night
it steals you away
before you even knew
what happened
a second was all it took
and suddenly
for an instant
life was perfect
hovering there
frozen in time
and then it was gone.
