Your Face
by Vaughn Neeld

I awake to a face
           that is not your face.
His face is a nice face,
but it is not your face.
Your face is etched
           in memory–
every wrinkle, every line,
           every hair, every pore.

I sit across from a face
           that is not your face.
His face is a kind face,
but it is not your face.
your face is etched
           in memory–
but only in dreams can I
           caress your face once more.
