On the Reservation
by Wilda Morris

I admire the white bear.
It's horsehair clay,
the Navajo vendor says.
She tells me the name
of the artist. The painting
on the side is called
"The End of the Trail."
She pauses, sighs.
Because the younger generations
are forsaking the old ways.
