Alone
by CJ Rakay

There's nothing worse than alone
when it clings to you fast, skintight,
like a brackish stain you can't erase from your hand

when each day moves hard
through thoughts rough and heavy
like bricks bending your shoulders
and you’ve become nothing more than the grayest of days,
shambled and terrified, for what seems like ages.

Some days you can't climb down from.
Some days you just can’t defeat,
and sometimes in the comfort of sleep you pray,
don’t wake up, don’t ever wake up
because at some point, enough is truly enough.
