Rays from the Mentor
An Acrostic Golden Shovel poem for Rhina P. Espaillat
by MFrostDelaney

slow summer clouds, cooled by their small green fans.
In “Highway Apple Trees,” by Rhina P. Espaillat

Encouragement, the sun on sprouts, the slow
Supporting spur into a bud in summer,
Phenomenon, no matter how the clouds
Appear. And even if the bud is cooled
It pushes on, unfolds itself by
Little fronds that reach for light, their
Lowly stature in the garden, small
Appearance, grows and grows, into the green
That bursts in blooms, and gathers garden fans.
