Snow Fall, by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Hidden Images
by Vaughn Neeld

Overnight, a fluffy snow has fallen.
Within the crannies and crevasses
of bare branches and spiky yuccas,
hidden images emerge–
outlines of critters of desert birth–
here, a deer, snow-white, outlined in black;
there, a white hare, its long ears alert,
and with gleaming eyes below spiny bristles,
a porcupine?

On two upper snow-laden branches,
I see two doves diving, ready to rest
upon the white-draped sage.
