Ice Storm
by Kathy Lohrum Cotton

Barreling south
on rails of wind,
run-away snow clouds
crash head-on
with hot black billows
of northbound rain–

a disastrous sky wreck
that shatters the windows
of heaven, scatters miles
of crystal shards
on stunned landscape below.

My cautious steps in
deep glistening debris
leave no footprints.
