Cardinal on Snowy Branches by Helen ONeal
Cardinalis Cardinalis
by Howard Osborne
I am here, perched in this snow laden tree
No modesty, humility, just a proud display
Today, less so than what worked in Spring
Yet I bring red color into the wintery cold
I hold no high rank in the Church of Rome
No poem or song may compete with mine
A sign of confidence that I deserve respect
An effect of no migration, nor taking wing
One thing among many, that may surprise
But cries are really nothing like our singing
Bringing both males and females together
Whether as familiar partners, or unknown
Alone, most likely for the rest of the year
So here I am, just one red cardinal to see
