Cardinal Contemplation

How regal you look in your red robe,
Sitting calmly on your frozen perch,
So steady and peaceful,
As you observe the winter scene
That surrounds you.
You inspire me, and encourage contemplation,
In a season devoid of warmth, color, and rejuvenation.
When the season of light and hope returns,
Will you fly away to settle on a colorful branch,
To await a mate who can fly with you tree to tree.
