Cardinal on Snowy Branches by Helen ONeal
Cardinal
by MFrostDelaney
Such beauty graces tree limbs – powdered snow,
a picture-perfect scene outside my door.
Oh my! A shocking red lands on a branch,
a bird with its black mask and orange beak
has saved this dingy day, its overcast,
and strikes a pose, as if it’s just for me.
I must be still or he will surely flee,
a welcome sight after this arctic blast
that’s taken sun and given sky so bleak.
The powder snow has left an avalanche
of soft white piles. So, who could ask for more?
Just me and Mr. Red, content. Although …
He’s waiting for his feeder to be filled.
There’s such impatience in those notes he’s trilled.
