Cardinal on Snowy Branches by Helen ONeal

Royalty
by Gay Williford

A network of snow-covered
branches criss-cross
the background of this scene.
A red cardinal perches
regally on a snowy twig,
his bright coat contrasting
sharply with the snow’s whiteness.
He stands out like
a Vatican Cardinal marching
proudly behind the Pope!
His black mask and orange beak
display a head gear that
adds a royal mystique
to his proud bearing.
His presence brings needed
color to winter’s monotone of white!
