Lace
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

the delicate lace pattern
of your petticoat
casts shadows
upon your ankle

your thin white ankle
festooned
with a floral design
like Mehndi
on a Bombay bride's hands
but gray and moving

ever moving
as your skirt
swishes and swirls
the flowers
sliding them
up
up your shapely leg
to your calf

half way there
I realise
I have never seen your knee.
