Daddy Loved the Mountains
by Nathan A. Baker

Daddy loved the mountains
And daddy loved to sing
We’d watch the hills and hollers
Come to life each spring

Daddy sang his love songs
Back to the blue birds and the wrens
Creating verses as he went along
Whistling a chorus now and then

The mountain laurel’s blooming
Calico colors midst the pine
Sisters pick a flower for daddy
And we’ll sing his songs tonight

Songs of Appalachia about
Love, and Creation’s Light
Songs that will get a family through
The trials of this wilderness flight

Songs of life and living right
Of being thankful for His plan
Songs that’ll make his two grandsons
Strive to be a better man

The mountain laurel’s blooming
Calico colors midst the pine
Sisters pick a flower for daddy
And we’ll sing his songs tonight

Yes, sisters pick a flower for daddy
And we’ll sing his love songs tonight
