Tanka and Haiku Selections
by Patrick T. Randolph
Homeless Traveler at Dawn
He drinks from his hat,
Sweaty smelling rain water,
His lips curl a grin.
Ghost Giggle
Clear dragonfly wings
Tickle night air like fingers—
The giggle of ghosts.
Lunch Time, Poetry 101
Birdfeeder counts beats—
Winged verse in perfect meter,
Pentameter pecks,
Her hands—paper, their beaks—pens;
Poetry workshop at noon.
Thirsty Souls
Gathering like sheep,
Leaves huddle near a puddle—
Are they thirsty souls?
No—they’re just trying to catch
Full Moon bathing— in the nude.
