Kid Gloves
by Dave Warner

Clouds rearrange themselves
into mythological creatures
devouring airplanes

as yellow dandelions
wave goodbye to white ones

we lie in the green
embraced innocence of youth
forgetting
for now
the entangled push-pull of marriage
where words become
cornered scorpions
skittering on quicksand

let the Stellar Jays
argue over branches
and butterflies tussle
among the bobbing stems
of nectar-filled goblets

tonight we'll roll-tickle-wrestle
flopping ourselves
on to neatly raked piles
of variegated dreams.
