Rumbleweed
by Dave Warner

With a crooked finger
and a stoplight wink
the highway beckons
my new old El Dorado

for a handful of bills
the wind will sing
of cactus flowers
and Joshua trees

fat flies and thin horses
clouded angels and dust devils

Heaven you can feel
Hell you can see

as the ghost water
rises dancing
to blues
the color of ribbon smoke
in a pool table neon

last chance whiskey
for a hundred miles
of tangled hair
and straight thoughts

top down gassed up
dashboard Jesus
not breaking a sweat
