Light across the Trail
(After an oil on canvas by Mary McInnis)
by Michael Escoubas

The brush
seems guided by a delicate hand
as if the artist is part of the land,
integral to the landscape she paints.

See how
light filters through tree tops
changes ever so gently its hues
and subtle colorations, see how

light cascades down embankments
how the greens and blues and yellows
paint a welcome to any sojourner
seeking peace.

Listen
as the forest in evening light whispers,
Come rest yourself, lean against a tree;
come to the light, let your spirit heal.
