Passing Through
by Annie Jenkin

I could rest on a cloud and travel,
see the world,
and elements of earth unfold each day.

Find a blue whale, a pod of dolphins,
coral reef,
or watch a turtle slowly paddle by.

Say hello to golden eagles, storks,
and pass
pink flamingos resting on salt lakes.

Trail a cruise ship to the south pole,
Antarctica,
to hear the raucous row of penguins.

But what would I do when darkness falls
and thunder calls
there would be no one to hold me,

or catch me before the wind broke
my spirit,
or to give me unconditional love.
