Small Blessings
A Viator
by Gail Denham

It’s little things that grab you
A son dashes over to hug you
Interrupting his basketball hoop practice
His face sports a sly grin

Your dog rears up to lick your chin
It’s little things that grab you
He’s not begging for a treat
Only demonstrating his devotion

There’s a large smile, and kind greeting
From you favorite grocery clerk
It’s little things that grab you
She asks if your Mom is still in hospital

When the house is finally calm, quiet
Dishes are done, you’ve put your feet up
Hubby brings you ice cream, dripping chocolate
It’s little things that grab you
