Midsummer Snow
by Geoffrey Heptonstall

A witness to the madness of minds
moving towards the midnight vigil
on the day the earth floated away.
Survivors remind us of their loss,
sometimes in sound, often in sight alone
seeking to restore the order of things.
A rumor rises with the changing season.

Confusion follows with a suggestion.
Some may think of wandering spirits
in dark so near a hand can touch.
A woman is running for her life–
name unknown–and never to be seen again.
All night the midsummer snow fell,
like truth gathering in clear air.
