Ocean Scene at Evening
by Michael Escoubas

There are moments when the sea, the world,
become more than mere natural wonders–
they become companions, almost human,
in their nearness, in the sounds they make–

with gentle voice we hear the swish and swoosh
of waves lapping toes, like fingers playing with us,
teasing, shoving, laughing, embracing, as if the sea
knows we need a soulmate, someone to come

alongside to help us enjoy the sun’s slow descent,
itself an event not to be missed in the daily
grind of life; the very thing the sea offers. The sea
and sand, waves and wind, beckon as a melody.

We sense a return of harmony once lost.
The evening’s enchantment sings to the soul.
