The River’s Source

In a waterfall of words,
a swollen stream of dreams,
the river of today tumbles
from high in the mountain
of my vast accumulated past.
Today the river
may strand me on some
muddy shore of memories
or carry me further
toward the ocean
than ever I’ve ventured.
Slow trickle or flood,
only the Source
shrouded in ethereal clouds,
knows the course
from its unseen watershed
of a thousand yesterdays.
This morning, my eyes turn
to the far-off peak
against a patch of blue sky,
inviting me to wade into
another day.
