Morning Meditation at Mar de Jade
by Kay Weeks

Gray sea – so soft and giving –
     give me back my sight.

Fold me into one commanding wave
      – a gentle hold
then hurl me roughly down on sandy shore.

Green sea – kindly pry open
my shell-clamped heart, your crashing wave,
exploding foam, unfurled to the sky!

Now, shake my solitary self!
Break it apart, and pound it
     into tiny fragments of light.

Then, withdrawing once again into yourself –
Green sea – please, cradle me.
